Jemima & The Fuse
Jemima & the Fuse are an experimental, alternative folk act who create an enveloping tapestry of dark songs and bright rhythms. Vocals layered with grit and tenderness are carried on a bed of strings and playful percussion.
For many years, folk singer and songwriter Jemima Thewes has been collaborating with Tim Lane; producer and founding drummer of Hidden Orchestra creating an enveloping tapestry of dark songs and bright rhythms.
Though rooted in the ballad tradition, inspiration comes from many genres. Tim’s intricate rhythms on chromatic tongue drum, kit & crafted samples, provide a bed on which Jemima’s powerful yet delicate voice and instrumentation carry you on a wild and hearty ride. Melodies and harmonies creep up and catch you unawares and beats get you moving in body and soul. This music is bold and experimental, taking Scottish folk to its own distinctive edge, the effect of which is heart opening and stays with you long after you have heard it.
The duo are also sometimes joined by the rich sonorous backdrop of Susan Appelbe on cello and Jem Le Lievre on bass.
